The OPS website is designed to provide a convenient source of photography-related information. The guiding principles for the design of the site were:

• to encourage interest in photography, and help photographers to improve their artistic and technical skills;
• to showcase the work undertaken by photographers associated with the Society;
• to offer the broadest possible web-based approach to the world of photography by introducing aspects such as presentation, distinctions, publishing, sources of inspiration, the art and technical aspects of photography, and a global view of photographic styles;
• to provide an easy-to-maintain structure which lends itself to almost limitless future expansion, and so encourage photographers to contribute images, guidance, and technical and artistic information; and
• to make available in the most convenient form up-to-date information regarding the Society's organisation, events and activities.
