The Disabled Photographers' Society is a registered national charity, founded in 1968, set up to encourage and support photographers with disabilities. The Society was established as a consequence of a group of enthusiasts in Richmond inviting disabled ex-servicemen from the Royal Star and Garter Home to join their meetings. The Society now has members all over the UK, and members now come from all walks of life.

Membership is open to disabled people, their carers, or anyone interested in supporting disabled people. Membership fees are low, there are quarterly magazines and competitions and organized outings. Distinctions similar to those offered by the Royal Photographic Society are also offered. These are:

• LDPS - the Licentiateship - the first distinction;
• ADPS - the Associateship - the intermediate award for which a higher level of skill is required;
• FDPS - the Fellowship - the highest distinction which requires a considerable level of skill and experience.
