Most traditional architecture features beautiful and intricate but relatively small-scale details which can make good photographic subjects in their own right. Gargoyles, clocks, towers, carvings, decorative cornices, windows, murals, balconies, archways and numerous other features are all worth close attention. Even simple and normally unremarkable details such as rows of tiles, repetitive patterns and contrasting colours can make rewarding subjects. The key is to use a good zoom lens, perhaps 80 - 200 mm or similar, to crop closely from the most suitable viewpoint.

Try a range of different  viewpoints to benefit from changing light and perspectives. Move around until the light and lines are right and the subject "pops". From high viewpoints the perspective is gain totally changed, and details of tiles and roofs take on a wholly different appearance.
