Jeremy Greenidge was born in 1965 and grew up in Europe, the Caribbean and the United States. His first camera as a gift from his uncle when he was about 7 years old. It was a Kodak camera that took 110 film, and used square flash cubes. As he earned pocket money he purchased more and more film and persuaded his parents to develop the images that he took.
After a lapse, he got his first SLR while in college. It was an Olympus OM-1 that went to Vietnam - and he still has it today. At that time he attended an aviation college and photographed many air-shows and also captured beach pictures. Fortunately his good friend worked at a local photographic studio and was able to develop all his film at extremely favorable rates. There's little automatic about the Olympus. But when used properly it takes great pictures. Jeremy still has it, and keeps it loaded for any black and white 35mm photography he may be inspired to undertake.
After college, he ventured into the world of the internet, but the lure of creating visual images through photography still beckoned. Once again he picked up his camera and started taking more serious photographs. In 2003, he took a photography course with his mother and received his first formal photography education. This seriously re-ignited his passion for photography. He discovered how to take better and better images, and has now become an award winning photographer.
Jeremy's Own Statement
Places and Faces:
I truly enjoy taking photographs and strive to incorporate artistry in my work. My inspiration includes Ansel Adams, Herb Ritts, the intricate works of Salvador Dali, and my friends Kelly Padgett and Gabriel De La Vega. I believe photographs are most interesting when they foster a sense of mystery, showing not just beauty but also peaking the curiosity as to how and where they were taken. Beautiful photographs are to be found everywhere, however, it takes not only vision but also patience and perseverance to find them.
My work is about being in touch with my environment. My vision is also driven by my love of technology and the exploration of new places. My interests are portraiture and capturing the beauty of our everyday surroundings.Faces and places interest me equally. I use slow shutter speeds and double exposures to explore the nuances of movement and the passage of time. I work with landscapes, seascapes urbanscapes and people, to illustrate my perspective. My goal is to use my camera to open unexplored worlds, to satisfy human curiosity and show everyday beauty.
I take great care and pride in presenting my work. Each image is printed on archival paper and is color corrected by hand. I use archival paper because it makes the photograph less vulnerable to degradation over the years. My photographs are available directly from my website: http://www.nowinfocus.com.
