A flush-mounted album appears, when closed, more or less the same as a traditional album. The key difference between the two types is that prints in a flush-mounted album are adhered to each side of a stiff matte or linen backing board and may extend to the edges of the pages. Consequently no mat nor border is visible when the album is opened, although the central hinge where the two pages join at the spine is always visible when the book is opened flat. This type of album may have a cover made of leather, fabric, metal or plastic. Flush-mounted albums typically have 20 - 60 pages and are available in sizes such as 6" x 6" , 8" x 8", 10" x 10", 10" x 12" and 12" x 12".

Albums of this type may be designed with a single image on each page or may incorporate more elaborate layouts, created using software such as Photoshop, which can then be printed as a single image.
